| CHUCK CONTEST Place your bets: Will Chuck see his shadow? Who would have thought a groundhog could bring free food? The folks at Applebees Neighborhood Grill and Bar await the prediction of Staten Island Chuck, New York City's own Groundhog Ambassador Plenipotentiary, on Sat., Feb. 2, at the Staten Island Zoo. The ceremony begins at 7 a.m. Chuck will waddle out of his home at 7:20 a.m. If he sees his shadow there will be six more weeks of winter, if he does not, there will be an early spring. Chuck's favorite foods are corn and sweet potatoes, but all who attend the Groundhog Day celebration at the Staten Island Zoo can redeem a voucher at any of the four Applebees on Staten Island for a free bowl of soup or a free dessert shooter. If the furry fellow sees his shadow, everyone in the crowd gets a voucher for a free bowl of soup. If there is no shadow, everyone in the crowd gets a voucher for a free dessert shooter. Both vouchers are good only with a purchase of an entree. Guests at Applebees also have a chance prior to Feb. 2 to predict Chuck's prediction. By entering the "Will Chuck See His Shadow?" contest, guests who guess correctly will be entered to win dinner for two once a month for a year. Three lucky winners who selected the correct answer will be chosen at random. |
