SAVE THE DATE!
Spring Volunteer Recruitment Day
Sunday, May 5th from 11am to 2pm
On this day, you can arrive at the zoo, complete an application and be interviewed on the spot for a number of volunteer positions. Entrance to the zoo is free for the volunteer applicant – any accompanying guests must pay admission. You can save time by downloading and printing out an application (for a Teen Volunteer, Adult Volunteer, or Docent & Jr Docent application).
If you are a high school student or an adult and want to be part of the Staten Island Zoo Crew as a volunteer, then visit Zoo Volunteer Recruitment Day! Applications will be available and interviews will be conducted. Positions are available for animal husbandry in our Children’s Center (age 16+), Special Events Crew (age 14+) and Animal Nutrition (Commissary) crew (age 18+), and Spooktacular crew (14+). Please note that attending Recruitment Day does not guarantee a volunteer position; it is your opportunity to submit an application and to be interviewed for possible placement. Zoo admission is free if you are applying to be a Zoo volunteer.
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Staten Island Zoo! Please read over the information below and click on the links to learn more about different types of volunteerism.
The Staten Island Zoo is grateful for our volunteer support. Volunteers are essential to the Staten Island Zoo whether you are interested in assisting behind-the-scenes or interacting with the public.
All of our volunteers are trained and supervised by zoo staff. We are honored for the volunteer help we receive. There are limited spaces available to volunteer.
There are 3 categories of volunteerism at the zoo: Volunteers, Interns, and Docents/Jr. Docents. Please read over the descriptions below, read the Volunteer Guidelines and follow these pages for more thorough descriptions and applications.
|Volunteers||Help in all aspects of the zoo – from assisting in preparing animal diets to assisting family fun at zoo public programs. Depending on the volunteer placement, there are different hourly requirements. More information can be found on the Teen Volunteer & Adult Volunteer pages.|

Teens 14 years and older along with adults learn public speaking and how to present animals to the public. Please click here to learn more about the Docent Program.
|Spooktacular Volunteers||We’re always appreciative of our Spooktacular volunteers who are a part of our once a year Halloween Event. Please click here for this application.|
At this time, the Staten Island Zoo does not have the capacity for group volunteer opportunities.
