For guests who have sensory processing needs, The Staten Island zoo has partnered with KultureCity to improve our ability to assist and accommodate guests with sensory needs. Our objective is to provide an inclusive and seamless experience for all guests for all events including those with sensory needs. We strive to raise awareness of the needs and challenges faced by individuals with sensory processing disorders by supplying our Team Members with continuous training and by offering the resources and accommodations below to our guests.
Sensory Bags: Sensory bags containing special KCVIP badges, fidget tools, noise canceling headphones and other resources are available for checkout (at no cost by leaving an ID) at our Guest Services Booth located at our Zoo’s Clove Road entrance gate.
Weighted Lap Pads: Weighted lap pads are also available upon request (at no cost by leaving an ID) at our Guest Services Booth located at our Zoo’s Clove Road entrance gate.

When do birthday parties take place?Birthday parties are held year-round on Saturdays and Sundays. We have two different time slots, 11am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm

How far in advance do I have to schedule a party?You have to schedule your party no less than three weeks before.

Can I bring my own decorations?Yes, although balloons are not permitted in the Zoo. Balloons are a hazard to our animals and the environment. You can bring other decorations but you will only have 15 minutes before your party to set up.

What happens if it rains?The party will still go on unless the Zoo is closed for severe inclement weather meaning State of Emergency.

What is the maximum number of people?The maximum number of people is 40. It does not have to be 20 children and 20 adults.

What if we have more than 40 people?The space comfortably fits 40 people. More than this will be too crowded and it may inhibit the instructor's ability to show animals. You will be charged $10 for each person over the amount of 40.

How much earlier can we arrive?You can arrive no more than 15 minutes before the start of your party to the party area.

What is included with the party?Five cheese pizzas from a local pizzeria, 24 juice boxes, 32 invitations, plates, napkins, forks. You may bring nonalcoholic beverages for the adults. You will need to bring your own cups.

Can I bring my own food?You can bring snacks, (chips, candy, fruit/vegetable platter). You can bring a cooler filled with ice and non-alcoholic beverages. Please note that you will need to bring your own cups. Additionally, you have the option to order extra cheese or pepperoni pies for $17 and $22 respectively.

Can I wait until people RSVP to order pizza?Yes, you can contact the Zoo up until the Wednesday before your party to order extra pizza.

When is payment due?We require a $100 non-refundable deposit when scheduling and payment is due three weeks in advance.

What is the cancellation policy?The $100 deposit in nonrefundable.

Can I bring my own cake?Yes, we do not provide a cake for the party.

Do you have a refrigerator or freezer for the cake?No, we do not have a refrigerator or freezer for the cake. Please do not bring an ice cream cake.

What animals are available to be presented?We have snakes, lizards, turtles, a chinchilla and an armadillo.

Can I choose which animals are presented?The animals are chosen by the instructor the morning of your party based on availability. You can make a request for animals not to be shown if you have a fear or allergy.

What is the itinerary of the party?Your party comes with an instructor who will do a craft with the children, then present three different animals, everyone in your party gets a ride on the carousel and then return to the party area where you will eat pizza and have cake.
